In 2020 Peter established REFCO Projects together with three other directors who each brought various expertise including business development, finance, and human resources expertise.
REFCO Projects is an SMME aspiring to unlock and thrive in the untapped manufacturing space for HVAC and refrigeration, particularly as a black empowered small enterprise.
REFCO Projects believes that it is well positioned to leverage on opportunities that remain elusive to traditional manufacturers in this sector.
REFCO Projects espouses a culture of entrepreneurship, and has a passion for the township economy, as well as a genuine belief in economic transformation. REFCO
Projects has an in-depth understanding of the non-traditional markets, and in particular, the township economy.
The directors of REFCO Projects come from disadvantaged backgrounds and are inevitably concerned about, and have a deep desire to do something about, the social ills in the community they grew up in and spent most of their lives in.

Our strategic partnerships are structured to broaden our capabilities and accelerate our growth trajectory as a small SME in the HVAC and refrigeration industry. These alliances are designed to promote access to expertise, resources and distribution channels, allowing the company to efficiently meet market demand and expand its reach.
In September 2023, REFCO Projects achieved a significant milestone of being awarded a grant from the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) for its SMME Incubation programme to produce Blower Coils and Condensing units. It was only natural for the HC Group to be identified as the preferred company to incubate REFCO Projects.
HC Group of Companies (Pty) Ltd is a privately-owned and managed South African business that has been in the business of heat exchange, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), cooling, freezing, and refrigeration systems and solutions for more than 50 years.
The Incubation Programme
REFCO Projects’ values of: Integrity, Purpose, Growth and Empowerment resonated with HC Group’s values and commitment to Enterprise Development. The incubation benefits REFCO Projects with access to machinery, equipment, tools, raw materials, training, skills transfer, capacity building, and technical expertise for production, which are the barrier to entry for aspirant and budding SMME’s.
The partnership with REFCO Projects goes beyond Enterprise Development and the two companies leverage synergies and collaborate to maximise commercial value for both companies in specific niche markets.

Peter Mnqabashe
Managing Director
REFCO Projects is the brainchild of Peter Mnqabashe who is the Managing Director of the company. Peter has a reputation of being a very hands-on and a highly experienced professional with a comprehensive background in the Refrigeration field spanning over 8 years of proven expertise in the sector. Peter has established himself as a visionary leader with a deep seated love for skills transfer and community upliftment which fueled his drive to advocate for and nurture entrepreneurship.
His expertise, proficiency and experience is a testimony of his deep understating of the wide range of critical tasks and full plant room design, ensuring that all components work seamlessly together to optimize efficiency and function.
Furthermore, Peter’s strong grasp of pipe design enables him to create accurate and effective layouts that meet industry standards and specifications. In addition, he has extensive knowledge in installations, allowing him to oversee the seamless integration of equipment and systems into operational facilities. The combination of his specialized skills and meticulous understanding of client requirements ensures the smooth operation of plants while delivering high-quality results in every project under his purview.
